Spiritual Discernment

Over the past several years, the Lord has shown me spiritual discernment in many areas. Some of these are about modesty, false doctrine, my actions.

What are some things God has given you spiritual discernment about, recently or in the past? It may even be something you are still working out...

Hey, Melissa!

Two years ago I felt compelled to step out of my comfort zone and start going on mission trips. My first one was going to be half my church and half another church in our denomination. After committing, all of the other members from my church dropped out for valid reasons. I was so scared about going with this group I didn't know but everytime I worried I felt God say "It's ok. Go anyway. Serve me." I did and it was one of the best experiences of my life.

I'm in a tough spot right now though with my following. As a matter of fact, I posted about it today. I feel compelled to continue following but material things are holding me back...

Tell us about your experiences!

I have been really challenged lately in having a right attitude especially with my DH. Since I've had Sarah, my tone of voice as gotten more sarcastic and I've gotten more sensitive to possible slights. This being so unlike me in the first place, I am having to go to God about it daily if not several times a day. I have one of my SIL's praying for me and holding me accountable. What this experience has done for me is to go back and study what the Bible says about sin and I've learned that many excuses are made for what is sin as if they are no big deal but sin is sin.

Over the last couple of years, God has really been working on fear in my life. While I am a work in progress, I have been given encouragement through 2 Tim. 1:7 and I often times say it when I feel fear coming on.

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and of a SOUND MIND."

I commented already but God really gave me a eye opening moment last night as I talked to my hubby. I have such fear of failure and rejection I rarely try new things like my writing. I want to be a writer but put off sending my stuff to publishers for fear of my hard work being rejected. I need to get over that. So I'll pray for you if you pray for me. :)

Danita: I saw your post about your tough spot. I know that your #1 ministry is to your family...first. Any other ministries should come after that. I do hope that God will reveal to you soon what His will is for you in outside-of-the-home ministries.

I plan on sharing my experiences very soon. I am glad you shared yours!

Katie: I COMPLETELY under the attitude problem. I have struggled with that A LOT too in my life, and still do. One of the great things about being a Christian is the feeling of the Holy Spirit convicting us when we have bad attitudes.

One of the hardest things to do is to say, "'Husband,' please make me aware when I have a tone of voice that does not honor the Lord." That is hard to do because you know what? They will tell you....and if you're like me...you really don't want to hear it!

I'm glad the Holy Spirit is working on you like that. It is a wonderful thing to have that conviction!

I will definitely be praying for you as your overcome rejection from publishers. No one likes the feeling of rejection. Pray for God's will in the mean time, that He would clearly reveal if this is His will for you. There may be another reason you do not have peace about it. I TRULY will be praying for you.

Charree: God's Word is CONSTANTLY telling us not to worry or be afraid of anything. But we do anyways.

I always think of Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." I love that. It gives me peace just typing it!

I love what you said, "I am a work in progress." We all are!
