Maternity Insurance

 Babypicturesphotos.com

Wanna know what one of mine and my husband's greatest fears is?  Expecting a child, without maternity insurance.  I currently have a great insurance policy for healthy young adults under 30, but it does not cover maternity care.  My husband has great insurance through his job, but it would cost SO much for me to be added to his plan.

I need your help.  What do YOU do for maternity insurance?  Do you have it at all?  Do you have a great plan with maternity coverage?  If so, please give me some information.  Feel free to post anonymously!

Thank you!

LIfe is so interesting isn't it? Well, Jon and I have VERY expensive maternity insurance so we wouldn't have to pay a dime when the baby arrived. Well, about 6 months into my pregnancy we came to the realization that I wanted a midwife instead. I found an amazing midwife, ( now an amazing friend ) and she charged 1500 for everything. So the conclusion was that we had waisted all our money on insurance. So I don't know if that helps you or not?

P.S. We were comforted to know that if anything went wrong we could still go to the hospital and not be charged a fortune! But if you do need more info on the insurance we used I can can try to help?

We had ours with insurance, but I have had several friend who determined it to be more expensive to do the insurance thing than to simply private pay. Hospitals have better rates if you are private pay, especially if you can pay the entire cost up front rather than payment plans. Check into that and also ask your doctor about costs so you are informed and can make a wise choice. It may make the most sense to start setting aside money every month.

Hi Melissa! Congratulations to you and your husband, also, on your upcoming 1 year anniversary! I hope you're first year together has been wonderful!

We don't have kids yet but my work's insurance coverage is pretty good for maternity insurance. Its and legitimate fear that you have and I'll be praying that when you and your husband get pregnant, that the Lord will provide!

In Him,
Brittany

In my state, employers who offer insurance are required to cover maternity care for women. I would check to see if that is something required in your state.

I'm glad to see that someone else recommended Samaritan Ministries because that is what my husband and I are a part of, and WE LOVE IT. We've had two babies while we were members, and it has worked very well for us. It's a fantastic feeling to know that we're part of a group of Christians who truly carry each other's burdens. Rather than bemoaning the fact that we have to pay a large amount to an insurance company each month, we actually look forward to sending our check to a real live person for a specific need. It's also comforting to know that our money is going to people with the same values as we have: not going to fund abortions or someone's lung cancer treatment from smoking, etc. Anyway, I could write more, but I'll spare you. :) If you have any questions, just let me know, and I'll be happy to tell you more.

Oh, and by the way, it's MUCH cheaper for us as a family than a traditional insurance plan would be.
