Grey's Anatomy: What's All the Hype?

I've gotta know, what's all the hype about this show "Grey's Anatomy"? I have to say, I don't think I've ever watched this show, but I have seen the commercials. Judging by the commerials there's A LOT of sex, A LOT of back-stabbing drama, with perhaps a LITTLE bit of Anatomy (I mean science, people, not sex which has already been covered). Here's why I ask, I notice a trend of women who claim to be Christians and LOVE this show! I mean, every week when it aires they are watching! Does it not go completely against what Christian women stand for? We are to be gentle and lovely and ladylike, not women looking for men to arouse and gain interest, pursue or be pursued with the intent on filling ones life with worldly pleasures! We are not to cause drama among our friends, co-workers or even enemies!

I want every Christian woman who reads this to think about what that show tells women who are watching. Does it tell them to lead godly, or even moral lives?? Can't find anything wrong with this show? Do you find it to just be a good-humored show, no harm done? Let me tell you, before long, you'll start thinking about this show, what happens in the show, it might appeal to you, you may start thinking the same pleasures. But would you ever act on those pleasures? Of course not, right?!?! WRONG! Fill your mind with thoughts like this show offers, and you'll start having a heart that out pours the actions you see!
Housewives
Tell me, is "Desperate Housewives " any better? If you watch this show and you're a wife, I pray that you don't act like they do......it only takes commercials to see the shows.

Think I'm being too harsh, please tell me, after you pray about it ;)

Hi Melissa!
I agree with you about these shows AND about the commercials. I haven't seen the shows because the commercials tell me enough about the show.

If I want my life to reflect Christ, I truly need to be careful about what I'm watching. You become like those you spend the most time with- even Mr. TV.

Phil. 4:8 says to think on whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, of good repute, anything excellent or worthy of praise. Does MOST of what's on TV today fit into these categories? Am I watching, reading, listening to things that match up to what this verse says to think on?

Ouch.

Thanks for the post!!

His,
Mrs. U

Hello,

I hope you don't mind my 'popping in'.
I too have been quite surprised at the amount of certain women I know from other online boards watching this! I saw the commercial for it the moment it came out and refused to watch it for the very same reasons you mentioned in your blog.

Btw I like your blog, very appealing to the eyes and mind :)

Blessings.

Hello there,

I love Jesus more than anything. I also love to watch Grey's Anatomy. Yes, all the characters are very flawed, just like the folks we know and work with, yet there are very heavy dialogues and even though they all behave badly, I don't think the message is that bad behavior is endorsed. When they cheat, things do not work out. The show is so popular because when you watch it, you can relate, they are all weak broken human beings, just like the people we know. I am not getting my morals from this show. I am not goint to cheat on my husband because of G.A. I know my God and the Holy Spirit is at work in my life. I love the Derek character for example, the way he treats people is so compassionate, very loving, like Jesus would. The Chief, Richard Webber, Miranda Bailey, they are all very good characters, they minister to people who are struggling. People deal with heavy things, just like in real life. It hits so close to home so very often. God has spoken to me many times through something somebody on the show said. I have prayed and do not believe that God told me not to watch it and I check with Him often. I think NBC on Law and Order (a show I love) does more damage to Christianity by portraying Christians as criminals. I have stopped watching it for a while because I felt it grieved the Holy Spirit that His people are maligned. Or the nurse on ER (Morris' girlfriend) who claims she is a born again Christian and has pre-marital sex. It's a subtle message that Christians are just as bad and immoral as others. I can handle G.A. much better than that. What do you think?
